A Special Commission

This special piece was commissioned by Helen as a gift for her friend Bridget. The two have been friends for many years and share a wonderful tradition every summer in Southwold. They meet on the beach for yoga before heading into the sea for a swim together.

When Helen got in touch, she told me all about their beach mornings and the memories they have created over the years. One detail made me smile straight away, and that was Bridget always lets out a scream as she runs into the cold sea!

I knew that had to be included in the design, Bridget with her arms thrown high in the air as she takes the plunge into the waves.

I began by creating a sketch so that Helen could see the design and make sure all the important details were included before I started painting the final piece.

The words “Happy Sunshine Days” were added as a reminder of those treasured moments spent together on the beach, enjoying yoga, swimming and friendship.

I love how personal this commission feels. It’s a celebration of shared memories, and the little moments that make us laugh and smile for years afterwards.
